Juan Gu ousts Shih Ying Chen in Women’s Singles first round at Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold
Singapore’s determined shuttler Juan Gu started her campaign in a confident manner as she ousted her local opponent Shih Ying Chen in Women’s Singles first round at Yonex Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold 2012 on Wednesday, October 3, in Chinese Taipei.
The World Number 17 Juan, who is the second seed in Women’s Singles draw in this championship, lived up to the expectations as she played with precision and ended up the match by consuming 41 minutes on court.
Juan played good badminton as she tested all of her shots and managed to send her rival packing in first round by finishing up the contest in straight sets with a decent margin.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Shih Ying gave a good fight but she could not live up to expectations in the ending points and eventually lost the match with a respectable score on the board.
In the first game, Juan played with precision and took an early lead but she failed maintain the distance on the board as her opponent geared up her speed and managed to stay close until the end of opening half.
After the break, Shih Ying played with precision and took a reasonable lead but she could not stop Juan from taking over the control of rallies in the ending points.
The in-form Juan played staggering badminton in the concluding points and ended up the opening set with a reasonable difference of 21-18.
In the second game, both shuttlers presented a wonderful show of aggressive and positive badminton and managed to stay close at the initial stage.
Juan tried her best to create gap but failed to push her rival on back foot until the end of opening half.
After the break, both shuttlers continued progressing in the similar fashion and reached at 16-16 when Juan took over the control and scored the ending points to finish up the rallies with margin of 21-18.
The second seeded Juan managed to show exit to her local challenger by winning this first round contest in straight sets with a 21-18 and 21-18 score on the board.
