Juan Ignacio Chela blows off Florent Serra in second round – BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy 2011
Wednesday, 21st September kicked off with the top seed, Juan Ignacio Chela opening with the 2nd round matches of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy 2011 at the heart of Romania, Bucharest. Playing a qualifier and a former
world No.22, Florent Serra, the Argentine nailed the Frenchman 6-1, 6-0 in just an hour and three minutes match to walk into the quarter-finals.
One of the oldest players to rank inside the top 25, Chela has amazed analysts through his play. However, the 32-year-old Argentine has had a rough season falling short in the US Open, Cincinnati and Kitzbuhel.
Going on head-to-head for the first time, the two 2nd round rivals entered the court, however, mumbles spoke of Chela having an easy win over the Frenchman. Winning the service toss, Serra stood to serve the older aged
higher ranker. With clay as the Argentine’s play ground, he ignited early breaking off the Frenchman off the opener serve, 0-1.
Serving out game 2, the 32-year-old blistered another breakpoint and extended his lead to 3-0 and served next. Serra on the contrary, had no defence against the vicious forehands of the world No.23. Hoping to hang on and might
as well prove miraculous somehow, the Frenchman got another buzzer as the Chela rolled the scoreboard 4-0.
Finally, the 30-year-old rolled down the scoreboard for the first time. With scores at 4-1, the Argentine came at front to serve out another win. Eager to save a loss, Serra gave a full 100 percent, however, that is the threshold
from where the world N0.23 started playing.
Breaking the Frenchman for the third time in the set, Chela eased away with game 7 winning the set 6-1 and led the match 1-0. With an insulting ending to the first set, the Frenchman moved on to give a better show in the second
set. However, what he had was his worst beating.
With the decider on its way, Chela served out game 1 saving a breakpoint. Hoping he had improved his game, the 30-year-old was jolted down next. Breaking Serra next, the super Argentine cleared up with the following game, game
3, and led the scoreboard 3-0.
Commanding through the set, Chela went on like a bulldozer clearing up a blocked road. Repeating the first 3 games beating, the Argentine ended the Frenchman’s misery as he broke-served-broke and ended up the set winning a bagel.
Winning effortlessly, the 32-year-old now moves on into the quarter-final round to play the seventh seeded Italian, Andreas Seppi.
