Juan Ignacio Chela crashes out to Grigor Dimitrov in round two – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Argentinean booming star, Juan Ignacio Chela, fell to the Bulgarian contender, Grigor Dimitrov in gruelling three sets at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 on Friday. He suffered a 2-6, 6-4, 4-6 loss at the hands of the world number 101 in the second round at
this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Masters 1000 event taking place in Miami, Florida.
The 32-year-old was underplayed by Dimitrov in almost two hours in their second meeting. The Bulgarian on the other hand confidently advanced into the third round but also extended his lead in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series by 2-0 against the Argentinean.
The 20-year-old, Dimitrov, made quick in-roads in the opening set. He lost his serve once but capitalised on three out of seven break chances to seal the opener by winning six games to two. The Bulgarian clobbered a poor first serve share but amazingly availed
eight out of 12 points on it.
Chela, who reached the final eight at the French Open last year, re-structured his strategy in the follow-up set. He smoothly slid entire serves without facing any breakpoint and cashed in one out of four break opportunities to pull out the equaliser with
a 6-4 win.
Ranked 32nd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Chela swayed from the winning track again in the final set. He converted one out of two break chances to his advantage but got broken down twice, ultimately enduring a 4-6 shock.
All in all, the higher ranked manipulated a better first serve share of 70 per cent as opposed to Dimitrov’s 53 per cent. However, he availed only 37 out of 54 points on it and coughed more double faults. The Argentinean also warded off only six out of 11
breakpoints he came across and ended the deal with 80 points.
Dimitrov on the other side of net advanced to face the world number seven, Tomas Berdych. The Czech number one devastated Nicolas Mahut of France with a breadstick to set-up this clash. He lost his serve twice but broke Mahut’s serve six times to earn the
glory.
