Juan Ignacio Chela downs Lukas Rosol in the third round – French Open 2011
World number 34 Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina survived a scare in the third set to oust qualifier, world number 111 Lukas Rosol of Czech Republic in four sets 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5) in the third round of French Open at Roland
Garros in Paris on Saturday. It took the Argentinean two hours and 35 minutes to win a tough encounter.
Chela took the lead straight away as he broke Rosol in the opening game of the first set and held his serve in the second game to take a 2-0 lead. The Argentinean broke again in the fifth game and capitalised on the double break
of serve to win the set 6-2.
The 31-year-old had a very good first serve percentage, delivering a whopping 86 percent of the first serves and bagging 63 percent of the points on them in the first set. At the same time, Chela troubled Rosol with his amazing
service returns, claiming 59 percent of the receiving points in the opening set.
In the second set, the Argentinean broke his opponent in the third game and held his next service game to take a 3-1 lead. Rosol broke back in the sixth game to tie the score at 3-3. However, Chela claimed three of the next four
games and won the set 6-4.
The right-handed hit a single ace and 57 percent of the first serves in the second set, grabbing 75 percent of the points on them. Rosol was self destructive as he committed fourteen unforced errors compared to just three by Chela.
The Czech converted one of the two break points on Chela’s serve but failed to save both break points on his own serve in the second set.
Chela and Rosol broke each on a number of occasions in the third set. However, it was Rosol who claimed the decisive break, breaking Chela in the eighth game and winning the set 6-3.
The Czech fired three aces and kept his first serve percentage at 68 percent in the third set and won 63 percent of the points on the first serve. The 25-year-old destroyed his opponent by hitting 19 winners in the third set. Rosol
capitalised on three of the six break point opportunities he created on Chela’s serve and saved one of the three break points on his own serve in the third set.
Chela and Rosol could not break each other in the fourth set, levelling the score at 6-6 and forcing a tie-break. The Argentinean clinched a single mini-break in the tie-break, bagging it 7-5. The six feet and three inches tall
hit three aces and 71 percent of the first serves, grabbing 76 percent of the points on them.
Chela is drawn to face world number 120 Alejandro Falla of Colombia in the fourth round.
