Juan Ignacio Chela takes down Philipp Kohlschreiber to level the tie against Germany in the final of the Power Horse World Team Cup
Argentina back fired at Germany when Juan Ignacio Chela defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second singles rubber of the final of the Power Horse World Team Cup at the Rochusclub in Dusseldorf, Germany, on Saturday. The Argentine took down Kohlschreiber
in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(4), taking one hour and fifty seven minutes to dispose of the German opponent in the final of the ATP(Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament.
The unbeaten Argentine side suffered the initial disadvantage in the final when Florian Mayer drew the first blood from Germany by defeating Juan Monaco in the opening singles rubber of the competition. It was the brilliance of Chela which brought Argentina
right back in the game when he outplayed Kohlschreiber in the second rubber to level the contest 1-1. However, the Germans eventually sealed the championship victory later when the duo of Philipp Petzschner and Kohlschreiber won the doubles matchup against
Chela and Mazimo Gonzalez.
It was the fourth time that Chela faced Kohlschreiber one-on-one and inflicted a much needed victory over the German. Last time these two men met was at Valencia last year, when Chela beat the German in an exciting three-setter 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 in the round
of 32. Chela’s victory over Kohlschreiber in the final of the World Team Cup now improves his all-time head-to-head series over the Argentine to 3-1.
Chela exhibited his brilliant tennis skills to outplay the German opponent and keep the Argentine hopes alive in the contest. He served brilliantly in the contest, reaching 81 per cent precision and bagging 49 out of 70 total serve points in the game. Only
two serve breaks were registered from Chela but his points winning proficiency proved to be the most vital part in his victory.
The two contestants had an aggressive start to the game, trying to build up early pressure upon their opponent. Kohlschreiber had two opportunities to break the opponent’s serve in the opener but was denied every time by the strong Argentine. Chela stung
a crucial break point in the fifth game to get ahead of his opponent and he kept the lead till the conclusion of the first set.
The first set fell to the Argentine’s name at 6-4 but Kohlschreiber posed some serious resistance in the following set. Kohlschreiber struck his first serve break of the contest in the second set but Chela replied by the same to drag the second set into
a tie breaker round. The Argentine proved his dominance in the ties breaker round and dispensed of Kohlschreiber to seal victory at 7-6(4). Argentina levelled the competition at 1-1 but the German duo bagged the doubles matchup to bring the championship crown
home.
