Juan-Lukasz win Bucharest title; Dustin-Rogier Reach First doubles Final
Juan Ignacio from Argentina along with doubles partner Lukasz Kubot of Poland captured their very first ATP World Tour doubles trophy on Saturday as they prevented a total of two tournament points to beat the second seeded Spanish
duo of Santiago Ventura and Marcel Granollers in a three setter clash at the BCR Open Romania tennis tournament. The final match score was 6-2, 5-7, 13-11.
After squandering a lead of 7-3 in the clash tie break, Juan and Lukasz stared down loss when they trailed 8-9 and 10-11 before rallying to grab the final three points of the clash and secure win in a time period of one hour and
thirty seven minutes on Saturday.
“Juan and I signed up last minute. It always feels great to play with one of the best clay-court players. Of course I'm sad that my usual doubles partner Oliver Marach is injured right now. I am thankful that Juan played with
me and that he kept up the great level in both singles and doubles. I think Juan has great potential and I wish him all the best for the singles final of the BCR Open tennis tournament as well,” said Kubot after winning the crown in Bucharest.
The winners received 250 ATP World Tour ranking points along with €20,220, where as the runner ups Ventura and Granollers secured 150 ranking points and shared the prize money of €10,620. Ventura and Granollers were bidding for
their second trophy together as a result of capturing the Chennai title after getting the better of Lu Tipsarevic earlier this year in January.
In some other action in Metz, Dutch- Jamaican duo Rogier Wassen and Dustin Brown made their way into their first ATP World Tour doubles title battle on Saturday as they brushed aside top seeds and Barclays ATP World Tour Finals
qualification players d**k Norman and Wesley Moodie in a total of two sets at the Open de Moselle tennis tournament in France. The final match score was 7-6(6), 6-3.
Waseen and Brown prevented both break points they faced and managed to convert their only opportunity in the second set to secure a close win on Saturday. The match concluded in a time period of seventy four minutes in Metz. The
twenty five year old Brown is through to his first ATP World Tour final, where as the more experienced Wassen on the other hand will play in his tenth ATP World Tour final. The thirty four year old right-hander has a final record of 4-5, most recently crowning
at Amersfoort along with Frantisek Cermak back in 2008.
Norman and Moodie who are currently ranked number five in the 2010 ATP Doubles Team Rankings, were bidding to make their way into their first ATP World Tour final of the year together.
In the title battle, Wassen and Brown will face the second seeded Brazilian duo Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo, who received a walkover when Edouard Roger Vasselin along with his partner Richard Gasquet, were forced to withdraw
with Richard suffering from a fever.
Soares and Melo are through to their fourth ATP World Tour doubles title battle of the year. The Brazilian duo captured their first team trophy in Nice after getting the better of Aisam-ul- Haq Qureshi and Rohan Bopanna and finished
runner ups to Tecau-Daniell in Auckland and to Nieminen-Brunstron in Gstaad.
