Juan Manuel Lopez apologises to referee Roberto Ramirez – Boxing News
Finally, Juan Manuel Lopez, former two-division world champion, came before the Puerto Rican media to apologise to Roberto Ramirez, a well-known referee who was in the ring when Juanma fought Orlando Salido. Juanma apologised for accusing the referee and his son for gambling after being defeated by the WBO lightweight champion Orlando Salido on March 10.
It should be noted here that this is the second apology from Juanma. The first apology came in an email to referee Roberto but he refused to acknowledge it saying that Juanma should apologise on a global platform and not personally. It seems like Juanma was finally convinced or intimidated to make the apology public.
The apology went on, “I would like to apologize and ask forgiveness from referee Roberto Ramirez for the things that I said after the fight with Salido. I’m embarrassed about what I said because I said things in a way I don’t even remember now. I saw the fight afterwards and was really hurt and he stopped it, so I apologize and apologize to the people of Puerto Rico for what happened. I saw the fight afterwards and was really hurt and he stopped it, so I apologize and apologize to the people of Puerto Rico for what happened.”
Juan Manuel Lopez was accompanied by his promoter Peter Rivera, trainer Alex Caraballo, manager Orlando Pinero, legal adviser Pedro Hernandez and conditioning coach Alexander Greaux.
He further said that if the Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico suspends him for a year, it would be devastating to his career since he cannot stay without fighting for that long. He said that boxing is his work and he has worked hard to reach this level and if he is banned for that long, his career will go on a slump.
The incident happened after Juanma lost to Orlando Salido. In his interview to Showtime, Juanma said that the referee stopped the fight for his own perks since he had placed a gamble on it. He then said that in his last fight against Orlando, Roberto’s son did the same.
