Juan Manuel Lopez says he has no evidence of Ramirez being a gambler – Boxing News
Juan Manuel Lopez, former two-division world champion, was present before attorney Alberto Arroyo to clarify his stance on calling referee Roberto Ramirez and his son ‘gamblers’. Alberto Arroyo has been appointed by the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission to
examine and investigate the entire situation. During his say, Juanma admitted that he does not have any evidence for whatever he said against Ramirez in his interview with Showtime.
Juanma was annoyed over Ramirez because the latter had stopped the fight after Juanma suffered a knockout against Orlando Salido. This was Juanma’s rematch against Salido. In their previous encounter, Roberto’s son was the referee. This is what made Juanma
say that both the referees, Roberto and his son, are involved in gambling and that is why they have been unjust towards him.
Juanma apologised for his act and said, “We hope that they consider that this is my way of life, my work. I was sincere. I have no evidence. I told the truth and asked for forgiveness and I apologized to Ramirez. I am a representative of the Puerto Rican
flag and I apologize to the country. I already medical tests and will do more. We are waiting for my doctor Guillermo Campos to do a small knee operation in about two weeks and I will do other tests including an MRI. I feel great and have to wait for what
the doctor and the Commission say. Of course, we will rest a while before returning to think about boxing.”
According to sources, Juanma had to sign a document along with shooting a clip, stating that he has no evidence of Ramirez being a gambler. Sources have further revealed that this video will be distributed on various public domains including social media
websites like Showtime and YouTube.
On the overall situation, PR Best Boxing’s vice president Peter Rivera said that Juanma humbly apologised to him and said that he does not want to be banned since he has worked hard to reach this level in his career. He further revealed that Juanma ensured
him that such an incident will not happen again and he will apologise to whomever the commission wants him to.
