Juan Manuel Marquez: I threw the perfect punch – Boxing News
Juan Manuel Marquez finally had the revenge of his life by knocking out Manny Pacquiao cold in the sixth round. An unpredictable right hand from Marquez ended the fourth fight with a blow, leaving most Pacquiao fans upset. It was the upset of the decade,
as Pacquiao was the favourite for the showdown and nobody expected him to fall, not at least with a knockout.
“I threw a perfect punch,” said Marquez who believes he was at the verge of being knocked out by the Filipino. “I knew Manny could knock me out at any time.”
Marquez knew if it was not a knockout, Pacquiao would have won. Pacquiao had won four out of vie rounds of the showdown. Moreover, the former WBO titlist was winning the sixth round as well, only if he was not knocked out. For Marquez, it was the only option
to be victorious in the fourth fight or else he would have been doomed forever.
“I felt he was coming to knock me out the last three rounds and I knew he was going to be wide open,” he added.
Even Pacquiao admitted the fact that he was in rage and he could not see Marquez’s blows.
“I got hit by a punch I didn't see,” he said.
Pacquiao was leading the fight with 47-46 score on the scorecards.
Even Freddie Roach admitted that Pacquiao got a little eager for the knockout.
“He was in charge. He just got a little too careless and got hit with a punch he didn't see,” said Roach.
The fight between the two was exactly what fans were hoping. It was exhilarating and exciting, something boxing fans were yearning for. Even though Marquez won and his fans called it ‘justice served’, the fact remains that Pacquiao has defeated Marquez more
times.
Pacquiao has won two out of three fights and Marquez has now won one. The Mexican still needs to get two more victories over the Pac-man if he wants to prove himself better. On the other hand, for Pacquiao just another win would put an end to the saga.
