Juan Manuel Marquez builds muscles but Alex Ariza not impressed – Boxing news
Alex Ariza, who is the conditioning trainer of the eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion) Manny Pacquiao, believes even the added weight and muscles are not going to help Juan
Manuel Marquez beat his man on the fight night.
The 38-year-old Marquez, who is the current World Boxing Association Super, World Boxing Organisation and The Ring Lightweight World Champion, normally fights at natural lightweight but he has bulked up in a bid to meet the required weight of 144 pounds
for his upcoming highly-anticipated trilogy fight with the Pac-Man.
Ariza admitted Marquez looks strong and he has put on weight pretty quickly but on the same note he remarked muscles do not win fights.
“Yeah, he really looks good,” he said in an interview with FightHype.com “My understanding is he has a good team. Muscles don't win fights.”
Ariza thinks the Mexican pugilist Marquez with this much weight and muscles will only have a chance against Pacquiao in the first two or three rounds because he thinks Marquez will not be able to maintain the same pace afterwards. Ariza claimed if Marquez
does not catch Pacquiao in the first three rounds, he will lose the fight.
“So what's the option, come in there as big as you can, as strong as you can, bang it out as hard as you can for three rounds, hopefully, catch him cold and get lucky, because outside of that, you're not going to beat him (Pacquiao). You're not going to
beat him any other way,” Ariza said.
Marquez and Pacquiao will lock horns on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and their fight is one of the most eagerly awaited fights of this year, as it will decide who the overall winner among them is.
However, let’s see if Pacquiao, who is currently rated as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, really beats Marquez this time because Marquez, who holds the third spot in the pound-for-pound rankings, has desperately waited three years to avenge
his defeat against the Filipino star.
