Juan Manuel Marquez defeats Sergei Fedchenko with unanimous decision – Boxing News
Juan Manuel Marquez was successful in defeating Sergei Fedchenko in his homecoming bout on Saturday night at the Mexico City. Marquez, who last fought against Pacquiao and lost, defeated Fedchenko with a unanimous decision.
The fight started with both the fighters trying to figure out each other’s style. Initially, Marquez seemed in trouble, as he was unable to work out Fedchenko’s style. However, once the Mexican got hold of Fedchenko, he went for hard hooks to his head. It
is pertinent to mention here that even though Marquez was playing hard, Fedchenko definitely showed some miraculous defending moves.
By round four, Marquez and Fedchenko both were trying to target their opponent’s bodies. While Fedchenko was landing rapid quick right hands on the chin and ribs, Marquez was to get hold of his opponent’s mid section.
Once Marquez learned how to hit Fedchenko, he took his own sweet time to break him down. With strong body shots on Fedchenko, Marquez went on dominating him without any resistance.
The most dramatic round of the bout was the eighth round, when Fedchenko desperately wanted to make a comeback and he tried jabbing Marquez. However, the shrewd Marquez kept to his strategy and delivered a couple of more body shots, which dismantled Fedchenko.
By the final round, Fedchenko was already going down just when Marquez came on top by delivering a strong right hand to the body and several shots to Fedchenko’s head. The last blow from Marquez was a streak of three straight punches which slowed Fedchenko
down.
By the end of the fight, the scorecards had scores showing 119-109, 118-110 and 118-110. In other words, Marquez was victorious on all three cards.
For Marquez, this is a great victory that can bring him one step closer to his match against the Filipino WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Marquez, who lost to Pacquiao last year, claimed that he wants another rematch but Pacquiao refused. However,
Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum, a couple of days back, said that a fourth match between both the pugilists could be arranged by November if all conditions are met. If Marquez is lucky, he might get another shot on the Filipino pride.
