Juan Manuel Marquez disappointed with Antonio Margarito
Juan Manuel Marquez, arguably the best Mexican fighter in the world today, tore into Antonio Margarito for his recent performance against boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao.
Margarito fought Pacquiao at the Cowboys stadium on 13 November in front of over 40,000 fans, and was visibly outpointed in the bout by a smaller, more nimble Pacquiao.
Following the decision, Margarito was immediately transported to the hospital after suffering two dangerous cuts and a broken right orbital bone.
Marquez, usually modest and humble, said in a boxingscene.com article, “It was a very painful defeat because [of] all the Mexicans, we expected that Margarito could defeat Pacquiao. But it was a shame because he looked so mechanical, so slow. He
put the Mexicans down.”
Marquez has fought Pacquiao on two occasions, both of which are considered epic wars amongst the boxing community.
In a first contest the two fought to a draw, while the rematch saw Pacquiao squeeze by with a contestable win.
Marquez continued with criticism of Margarito, “But you know, he looked like an amateur fighter. He didn't know how to walk, he didn't know how to throw the jab. It was very disappointing, honestly.”
Since Pacquiao's victory the boxing community has been in a flurry to determine his next opponent. One option being tossed around is Marquez, who would almost certainly like the opportunity to redeem his defeat to “Pacman”.
Marquez acknowledged that the fight may not happen for various reasons.
“I see that it's more and more unlikely that a third fight between me and him [Pacquiao] will happen. He definitely doesn't want anything to do with me because I'm the one who made him suffer,” Marquez told
notifight.com.
