Juan Manuel Marquez says he is clean and willing to take any test – Boxing news
The Mexican Dinamita, Juan Manuel Marquez, who is the current World Boxing Association Super, World Boxing Organisation and The Ring Lightweight World Champion, has insisted he is ready he is willing to take any test at any time.
The Mexican claims he has not used any performance enhancing drugs while bulking up for his upcoming fight with Manny Pacquiao.
“I have done a clean preparation for this fight like always,” Marquez said through a translator. “I will take any test any time. That's why anti-doping exams exist.”
Marquez, who seeks a world crown in his fourth division, will take on Pacquiao in their highly-anticipated trilogy bout this weekend on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 38-year-old Marquez normally fights at lightweight but he has put on weight in order to meet the required catch weight to fight the Filipino star, who is an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion
(Super Champion).
However, since Marquez’s strength and conditioning coach Angel Heredia admitted providing performance-enhancing substances to Trevor Graham, Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery along with other former US athletics stars, Marquez bulking up has come under great
scrutiny.
Therefore, Marquez is not happy with the accusations and has said he is ready to take random blood testing or urine tests in order to prove he is not a dope cheat.
“It's a shame all the work I've done has been trashed,” said Marquez.
Meanwhile, Marquez’s trainer, Ignacio Beristain, also defended his fighter. Beristain insisted he and his man have done all the right way and there should be no doubts about it.
“There are different ways to get a fighter very strong. We've done it the right way,” Beristain said through a translator. “I don't see why somebody should doubt we have done it the right way. I'm grateful for what he did with my fighter. I got a great guy
who is strong.”
Marquez, who is currently rated as the number five pound-for-pound fighter in the world, has waited three years desperately to avenge his defeat to Pacquiao and his fight on Saturday will certainly be an explosive one.
