Juan Manuel Marquez says odds do not worry him – Boxing news
Juan Manuel Marquez, who is the current World Boxing Association Super, World Boxing Organisation and The Ring Lightweight World Champion, has stressed he is not worried about the odds ahead of his highly-anticipated bout with the eight-division world champion
and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), Manny Pacquiao.
“(Odds) don't do anything for me,” said Marquez.
The Mexican Dinamita, Marquez, and Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao are set to meet on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada for the third time in a fight which is one of the most eagerly awaited ones.
Marquez knows his opponent is going to enter the ring as a red-hot favourite but he has claimed he is worried with all the odds because he believes the odds will not affect his fight. Marquez insisted he has desperately waited three years to avenge his defeat
against the Filipino star and he is not concerned with what people think of him.
“People can bet what they want, people can put the odds how they want them. If they like the 9-1 odds, that's fine with me. It has nothing to do with the fight,” he said. “I am just going in with the mentality that I have to win the rounds. If the opportunity
comes, if I hurt him, then I will go for the knockout. I am not going to hesitate if the opportunity is there to go for it.”
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, who is the winner of 53 of his 58 professional fights (2 Draws), with 38 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, fought Marquez mainly with his left hand in their previous two fights. However, now he claims
he is equally good with his right as he is with his left and Marquez’s trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain has also admitted it.
“Pacquiao has definitely become a better technical fighter than he was,” said Beristain.
After keeping all the facts and statements in mind, it is fair to say that Marquez-Pacquiao 3 will certainly be an explosive fight.
However, let’s see if Marquez can really shrug off the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
