Juan Manuel Marquez wants to fight a southpaw – Boxing News
After desperately wanting to have a fourth match against Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez now wants to fight a southpaw. According to Marquez, he wants to face a fighter who is left hander, probably Zab Judah, the former WBO champion.
Marquez won his last fight against Sergei Fedchenko via unanimous decision for the WBO interim junior welterweight title. Marquez, who is currently 38, lost to Manny Pacquiao last year in their third match. The first match with Pacquiao ended up as a tie,
the second was won by Pacquiao via split decision and the third was won by Pacquiao again by majority decision. Their last fight was pretty close and now Marquez thinks he can beat Pacquiao. Last month, Pacquiao expressed his wish of fighting Pacquiao again,
but there was no response from Pacquiao’s camp.
When asked, Marquez said, “My promoter hasn't told me anything, p***e, but I'm waiting for Bob Arum to tell me about July 14. I'll take whoever they feel is the best opponent for me. But it has to be a southpaw in case Manny wants to fight with me again.
I am looking for another southpaw opponent with Pacquiao's style. I need to speak with my promoter and I need to talk to Fernando Beltran. I don't know what will happen at this moment. I'll arrive in Mexico maybe on Monday and speak with Fernando.”
Pacquiao is currently scheduled to face unbeaten Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. When the question regarding a fourth match between Pacquiao and Marquez was put in front of Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, he said that there is
no point in a fourth match since both the fighters know each other well. According to Roach, a fourth instalment will be boring and will not grasp fans’ attention.
For now, it seems like Marquez needs to wait for another match against Pacquiao. If Pacquiao beats Bradley then he might go for a fourth instalment, as he will not have a lot of options open to him. However, if he is unable to beat Bradley, then probably
the Filipino will retire and Marquez’s wish of a fourth match will go unfulfilled.
