Juan Manuel Mata set to extend his contract with Valencia CF
According to the latest media reports coming out of Spain, Valencia forward Juan Mata is set to extend his contract with Valencia CF. The player’s current deal with the club expires in 2013 but Los Che are wasting no time in tying down the star player for
the foreseeable future.
Mata is a former Real Madrid youth player. The youngster was at Santiago Bernabeau for three years but failed to make his senior debut for the club. Real Madrid hierarchies deemed the player surplus to requirements and the forward duly signed for Valencianistas.
Where Real Madrid are splashing millions on the players to fill a position where Mata used to play, the Valencia forward has already won the World Cup with La Furia Roja.
Mata’s performances over the years have been increasingly impressive. The playmaker forward was handed a first team spot due to Vicente’s constant injury troubles and the former Oviedo youngster hasn’t looked back ever since. Mata has made 122 appearances
in all competitions for the Mestalla based outfit while scoring a decent 36 goals. Following the sales of David Villa and David Silva, the player has becoming all more important to Valencia’s Champions League ambitions.
Mata was expected to extend his contract last year but the club was in financial dire straits and an agreement couldn’t be reached. This season however, the Valencianistas got some much needed cash injection following the sale of the two start players and
the club has made it its priority to sign an extension with star forward.
Mata’s father Juan snr, who also acts his representative, is reportedly looking for a five year contract with an improved deal. The increased wage demands are unlikely to prove a stumbling block as the player is of vital importance to the club.
Mata was being linked to several Barclays Premier League outfits in the summer transfer window. In the wake of recent developments, clubs like Manchester United will have to look elsewhere for reinforcements.
