Juan Martin Del Potro and Marcos Baghdatis will headline 2011 Medibank International
The United States Open winner Kim Clijsters from Belgium and Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentine along with last year’s winner Marcos Baghdatis and number one Australian Samantha Stosur, will all headline next year’s Medibank International
tennis tournament in Sydney.
Craig Watson, who is the director of the championship made an announcement of the star quartet on Tuesday as the first confirmed contenders for the international competition, which is set to start from 9th January next
year.
“The Medibank International Sydney competition continues to excite and entertain the Sydney sporting public each January and plans are well underway for an outstanding event at the start of the year. We are happy to be welcoming
back top favourite Belgian Kim Clijsters to the tournament,” said the Director on Tuesday.
Watson was of the view that to have two major winners and two Grand Slam runner ups already confirmed as beginners for the next year is a great news and shows the significance as well as historic importance of this event.
He also made an announced for the continuation of the popular $9.90 ground pass, Kids’ Day for the tournament and the Live Site concert series in 2011.
“We would like families from all over Sydney and NSW to be able to experience world class tennis in their own backyard. Our $9.90 ground pass, the best value sporting ticket in Sydney, will be available again next year,” Watson
explained.
He also said that the ticket prizes for next year’s edition of the Medibank International Sydney tennis tournament are comparatively low so as to give more chance to the public to experience the excitement and thrill of this unique
tennis event.
Kids’ Day will be held on tenth January, where all the kids below sixteen will be given an opportunity for free access to the grounds along with the on-site activities.
The 2010 Medibank International Sydney Competition will be contested at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre from 9th January to 15th January next year. The tickets for the tournament are already on sale
and can also be purchased online as cleared by the event director, Craig Watson on Tuesday.
