Juan Martin Del Potro beats Yen-Hsun Lu in round three – Australian Open 2012
On day five of the Australian Open tournament, Juan Martin Del Potro defeated Yen-Hsun Lu from Chinese Taipei in the straight sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. It was an easy draw for the 11th ranked Argentine, as he didn’t take long
to overpower the 79thranked Chinese. Del Potro doubled his head-to-head lead with this triumph; placing a cherry on the top of his win in the Legg Mason 2009 against the Taiwanese. It was a comprehensive triumph that will boost the morale of the
Argentine and gives him the psychological advantage over the upcoming rivals.
The Argentine started the match with a successful serve break and doubled his lead in the next game. That initial mishap from the Taiwanese cost him a lot and gave the advantage to his opponent that was clubbed with both hands
by Del Potro. He broke again in the seventh game to consolidate his position and put himself in the winning state. He served for the set in the next game and took the set lead with ease.
Second set was complete replica of the opening set. Del Potro broke serve in the first game and consolidated his position with a comprehensive 2-0 lead upfront. Both players hung on to their serves in the upcoming games before
the Argentine came out with an all round onslaught in the ninth game and won all his net points to break serve and take two nil set lead.
Last set was the matter of time for the Argentine before he could confirm his place in the last 16 players of the tournament. Comprehensive 6-0 score line in the final set shows the level of domination from the 11th ranked
Argentine. He went out with one thing in his mind; to hammer down his opponent and give him no opportunity to make a comeback. He played most of the game close to the net and his winning ratio of net points was near perfect.
This performance will definitely infinite the ferocity for the Grand Slam title in Del Potro’s heart as he looks to make a mark in the next round with a similar performance.
