Juan Martin Del Potro blows off Sam Querrey in quarter-final fixture – Valencia Open 2011
Juan Martin Del Potro, Argentine world No.14, dragged down his quarter-final challenger of Valencia Open 2011, American world No. 116, Sam Querrey, beating him in straight set, 6-2, 7-5 in an hour and 17 minutes hard indoor court
match at Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, Valencia, Spain on Friday, 4th of November.
Comparatively, the Argentine had a predictable win as the disparity in ranking was enough to predict the outcome of the match. Anyhow, with the two walking down the court and warming up, American world No.116 won the toss and took
his side to open up the match.
Kicking off with the fixture, Querrey served the match start, however, went down early in the set as the Argentine world No.14 broke the lower ranked American on his opening serve and then served out game two to lead the set, 2-0.
Serving his second game of the match, American world No.116 was no match for the vicious Argentine. Del Potro broke the 24-year-old again in game three leading the set 3-0, before he served out the next game to go up winning straight
four games.
Winning his first game, Querrey finally rolled down his side of the scoreboard, however, could not comeback with a breakpoint. With two games left, Del Potro swirled away winning the set bagging two out of the last three games,
6-2, and moved on to play the second set.
Querrey continued with serving first again and this time the American pulled off winning the opening game, 1-0. Following with a winner, Del Potro levelled up right away serving out game two, 1-1. Unable to break this time early,
Del Potro levelled up the scores at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, and then on 5-5 before the Argentine made his move.
Serving out game ten, 5-5, Del Potro broke the 24-year-old American in game eleven to lead the scores, 6-5. With just one more win required for the Argentine to finish off with the match, world No.14 mustered away serving out game
twelve winning the set 7-5 and the match in straight and easy sets to make his way into the semis stage of the ATP World Tour 500 event.
Del Potro, doing away with Querrey now moves to play against Marcel Granollers, who was the runner-up for this event last year. However, last year there was no other strong competitor other than the defending champion, David Ferrer.
Anyhow, Del Potro is predicted to win the match and make his way to the final battle ground.
