Juan Martin Del Potro is in perfect form for Roger’s Cup 2012 – Tennis News
World number eight, Juan Martin Del Potro will be contesting for the Rogers Cup 2012 in Toronto Canada, willing to carry on his sublime run of form. He gave Roger Federer a tough time in the Olympic semi-finals but lost by
6-3, 6-7(5), 17-19, while making a record of longest men’s three-set match. Later he competed against the defending bronze medallist of the Beijing Olympics, Novak Djokovic, giving him a straight set upset of 7-5, 6-4, to bring home a medal from the London
Games.
The 23-year-old’s game has picked momentum since 2009 when he beat all the odds to win the US Open Championships. He achieved the distinction of defeating Rafael Nadal and Federer in the same tournament. He was unable to
maintain his form and rankings, as he was plagued by career-threatening wrist injury, missing out most of the last season for the same reason. However, the Argentine number one has gradually risen to form in the running season and is all set to launch his
onslaught at the Rogers Cup.
The Argentinean will have to face a tough competition by the hands of British tennis icon, Andy Murray, at the Totonto Masters campaign. The young Scot created a history for Great Britain at the Olympic Games and became the
first man to win a gold medal since 1908. He is perfectly suited for the hard courts of Toronto and is rated among the hot favourites for winning the title.
Novak Djokovic, the former world number one, will surely be ready to avenge his bronze medal. Nonetheless, the Serb’s performance this year has considerably declined which was very evident from his Olympics performance against
Del Potro.
The next top most contender of the tournament is the 21-year-old local boy, Milos Raonic. He claims to be excellent form this year; however, he faced a challenging defeat by the hands of Murray in the third round of the Great
Games. Nevertheless, his serves has remarkably improved this year and will surely add to his advantage in the event.
After Federer and Nadal’s withdrawal from the Roger’s Cup, the stage is all set for Del Potro to smash a victory. Murray, being the next best man is little relaxed after his big Olympic victory. The young tennis ace surely
has immense potential to win the Masters Series title in Toronto but he has to do away with some of the best in business before getting his hands on the trophy.
