Juan Martin Del Potro ousts Daniel Brands in the round two – Erste Bank Open 2012
Top seeded Juan Martin Del Potro took the better of the German participant, Daniel Brands, in the round two of the Erste Bank Open 2012. After a fierce three-set thriller, he consolidated his outstanding 6-7(5), 7-6(4), 7-6(6)
win on the eve of Wednesday, on the hard courts of Vienna, Austria.
In a post match interview Potro said, “If I knew this was going to happen before, I would have stayed at home for sure. But I played a nice match for my first round after a month without competition. He served really well every
moment of the match. I served really well too.”
Ranked 111th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Brands, held his initial serve without facing any hindrance and preserved his upper hand. Irrespective of the pressure by his rival, the lower ranked German displayed his
superior experience and sustained his lead. Eventually, he jumped forward and terminated the set with a 7-6(5) win after a close tiebreaker round.
The 24-year-old, Potro, made an epic comeback and completely shattered his rival. He avenged his former loss in the set, thundering his rival with his powerful serves and forehands. Both the players successfully maintained their
serve but the Argentinean professional unleashed his might and beautifully reeled off the games as the the set progressed. Nonetheless, the lower ranked German made a splendid response and levelled down the scores after every alternate game. Like before, the
set ended with a tiebreaker and Potro stole the lead by 7-6(4).
In the final set, none of the players gave up and the forcefully battled to secure the lead over one another. The Argentinean participant sustained his momentum but was unable to receive the coveted break. The two players continuously
equally plucked away, making the competition as the time passed by. The Argentinean number one geared up his pace and struggled hard to terminate the match with his remarkable 7-6(6) win, after a close tiebreaker round.
The 25-year-old German participant attacked his rival with 32 aces and committed six double faults. He bagged away 66 of 77 points. The players were unable to capitalize on even a single serve break the entire time. The right-hander
fired 30 aces with 62 percent initial serve accuracy.
