Juan Martin Del Potro trounces Alejandro Falla in the second round – BNP Paribas Masters 2012
World number eight, Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina, kept on playing flawlessly for the third week in a row, as he scored a one sided win over the 56th ranked player from Colombia, Alejandro Falla, in the second round
of BNP Paribas Masters in Paris.
The Argentinean star dropped just four games in the entire match, winning it in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. The encounter last for only one hour and 17 minutes.
Del Potro is bidding to win third back to back title, after winning the Erste Bank Open in Vienna and Swiss Indoors Basel in the last two weeks. This was the Argentinean national’s 11th straight match win.
The Argentinean and Falla started the contest by holding their serve in the first three games and taking the score to 2-1 in favour of the former. Del Potro made a breakthrough in the fourth to go up 3-1 but his Colombian opponent
hit back immediately to reduce the trail to 2-3. Though, Falla could not come on equal terms, losing the next three games to lose the opening set 2-6.
Del Potro came roaring in the second set, grabbing opening five games to race to a 5-0 lead. Falla succeeded in finally holding his serve in the sixth to open his account and then broke Del Potro in the following one to take the
score to 2-5. However, he lost his own serve in the eighth game to go down 2-6.
The seventh seed, Del Potro, pounded a total of six aces and grabbed 23 of the 30 first serve points in the match. The Argentinean national responded aggressively to the second deliveries of his opponent and clinched 25 of the
35 points on them.
During the post match press conference, Del Potro said, “I feel tired, but this tournament is so good. It's a big tournament, and I'm ready to do my best like in Basel and Vienna. I played really well today. Tomorrow, I have a
difficult match against a French guy.”
The Argentinean contestant will face the French wild card entrant, Michael Llodra, in the third round.
