Juan Martin Del Potro trounces Florent Serra to enter round two – US Open 2012
Argentinean number one, Juan Martin Del Potro, got the better of the French lucky loser, Florent Serra, in straight sets at the US Open 2012 on Wednesday. He jolted down a 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-4 success against the world number 116 to book a spot in the round
of 64 at this final of the four Grand Slam events held in Corona Park, New York City.
Seeded seventh in this event, Del Potro trounced the lucky loser through exquisite forehands in their first encounter at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. After earning the fame in two hours and 34 minutes, the Argentine edged in the FedEx
ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head Series by 1-0 against the 31-year-old and progressed into the second round.  
"He played really well," said del Potro in a courtside interview after overpowering Serra. "He served well in important moments, but I think I played much better in important moments than him - basically in the tie-break, in the second set, and in the end
of the match. Was a really close match, but I feel good."
Del Potro entered the Louis Armstrong Stadium in high spirits. He smoothly bagged his entire serves without facing any barrier and got the breakthrough in the fifth game to click the opener with a 6-4 win. The Argentine converted one out of six break opportunities
to his advantage and stayed on track for his maiden Grand Slam title.
The 23-year-old maintained consistency in his game in the following set and easily plucked his entire serves without facing much trouble. He failed to get a breakthrough but cruised to a 3-1 lead in the tie-breaker to clinch the set with a 7-6(4) score line.
Ranked eighth in the world, Del Potro carried his momentum in the third set and held his opening serve to take the initial lead. He then warded off the lone breakpoint he came across to keep his entire serves. The Argentine cashed in the only break opportunity
in the last game, ultimately clicking the set by winning six games to four.
The seed will face off America’s Ryan Harrison in the second round.
