Juan Mata admits Manchester United Legend Ryan Giggs is his idol
Valencia playmaker forward Juan Mata has recently admitted in an interview that he used to idolise Red Devils’ winger Ryan Giggs when he was young. Valencia and Manchester United go head-to-head in the second round of UEFA Champions’ league group stage.
However, Giggs is set to stay at Old Trafford as he is deemed unfit for the match. The omission has left Mata disappointed. He said, “It is such a shame that Giggs won’t be playing because I would have loved to swap my Jersey with him."
Ryan Giggs has achieved legendary status with Manchester United following the winger’s unerring loyalty to the club and his dazzling performances for the club over the years. Giggs signed for Red Devils in 1987 and has been with the club ever since. Giggs
has been making more than 20 league appearances each season for the past two decades - a testament to his consistency and longevity. Giggs has bagged 11 league titles and 2 Champions League trophies with the club among a plethora of silverware.
Mata went on to discuss why the club has been performing really well despite the sale of their two best players, David Villa and David Silva. Mata believes the club had a smart transfer strategy where the management looked to balance the squad rather sign
big name players.
Mata himself is a former Real Madrid player. The player spent four years at the Madrid youth academy but the club deemed the winger surplus to requirements and was promptly released. Valencia was quick to realise his potential and signed the youngsters on
a free transfer. Mata’s stocks have been rising ever since as the youngster has won the World Cup with La Furia Roja at a tender age of 22. Mata is an integral part of Valencianistas squad. The winger scored an impressive 9 goals playing away from goal.
Mata will line up against Manchester United at the Mestalla tomorrow night and will look to open his scoring in the European competition for the season. Mata is a highly sought after player and it shouldn’t come as a surprise if the winger actually turns
out to be Giggs’ replacement at Old Trafford.
