Juan Mata chose http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur
Juan Mata, the 23-year-old Spaniard, revealed he had snubbed Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for a move to Chelsea. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 left-winger is close to a move to the Stamford Bridge, with just the medical remaining before he can officially be declared as
a Chelsea player. The Blues have reportedly paid an estimated £26 million to acquire the services of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international.
Despite wide belief that Mata decided on the big spending Blues because of the fact that they were better off than their London rivals, the player insisted he had not considered money while deciding his move. Mata revealed he had wanted to transfer to the
English Premier League and win trophies and he was confident he would be able to do so with the Blues.
With the Blues having done considerably well as compared to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur over the years, it is understandable why Mata chose them ahead of the other sides. Despite a mid-season slump last season, Chelsea managed a praise worthy comeback
and managed to finish second on the Premier League table, ahead of both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
While http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 still managed to clinch on to fourth place, which means they stand a chance to qualify for the UEFA Europa League, the Spurs are competing for a place in the Europa League. Mata obviously did not find contention in the second tier European
competition as impressive, which is why he decided on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Mata said while speaking to reporters:
“I want to come to England to win trophies - and that's why I accepted Chelsea's offer.
It was also a question of sporting achievement, not money. Arsenal and Tottenham were both interested in me but they did not compare with the Blues.
I want the Premier League title and this is possible at Chelsea.”
Mata admitted Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 striker, new Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas
convinced Mata he would go on to play a crucial role for Chelsea if he joined.
The Spaniard revealed:
“Fernando Torres helped influence my decision but speaking directly with Villas-Boas was the decisive factor.
He explained how his style will be based on 4-3-3 and how important I will be to his plans.”
In addition to that, Mata revealed he was looking forward to playing with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097. He admitted he was a huge admirer of the 33-year-old attacking midfielder, and hoped to be playing alongside him soon. Mata will be
unveiled as a Chelsea player as soon as the minor details of his contract are finalized.
He continued:
“Frank Lampard is a monster of a footballer to play alongside and the prospect of that is incredible.”
