Juan Mata to face idol http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 on Sunday, believes Chelsea can win the Champions League
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 winger Juan Mata will be facing Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs at Old Trafford this Sunday, a player the 23-year-old winger admitted looking up to. The Spaniard admitted to being an admirer of the 37-year-old Welsh midfielder, who scored in
the UEFA Champions League fixture against Benfica in mid-week, making him the oldest player to score in the European competition.
Mata, who has been compared to Giggs since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, said he was still a fan of the Manchester United midfielder. This will be the second time Mata faces his idol, having previously played against Giggs in the UEFA Champions League
at Old Trafford last year. However, this time the two will be playing a big role for their respective sides in the English Premier League.
Mata said in an interview:
“He showed what he's worth with his goal the other day.
He's actually one of the best wingers that there has been and are around right now.”
He continued:
“He's an incredibly impressive player in his tackling, in his dribbling and in his general style.”
While Ryan Giggs’ goal earned his side a draw in their opening Champions League game, Mata’s goal gave his side a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge. It was misfiring striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542
opening the scoring and Mata adding a second for a comfortable win. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international admitted the Blues’ desire to win the European competition was great.
He revealed:
“The Champions League is obviously very important and it's something that's very attractive to us.
But we're also very interested in the Premier League and any other competitions that we take part in.”
However, he insisted they were as determined to win the English Premier League crown as they were to win the Champions League title. The reason why the European Cup seemed more attractive was because of the fact that the London side had not previously won
it, they have on the other hand, won all the other trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup.
Along with Manchester United, La Liga sides Real Madrid and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 are favourites to win the Champions League but Mata was confident his new club had a good chance to claim the European trophy. He was aware that the Spanish sides would present a tough
challenge, having transferred from Spanish outfit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863, but maintained the Blues had as much opportunity as everyone else.
Mata said:
“I would mention Chelsea as one of those teams and this is a very difficult competition that we're in right now, so I think everyone has a chance.”
