Juan Miranda helps Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Houston Astros 7-6 - MLB Update
The Arizona Diamondbacks continue on their winning ways as they defeated the Houston Astros 7-6 in the first of the three game series at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on the May 27.
When the night began, it seemed like the Astros would be the one’s taking away the victory, but it turned out to be the opposite as the Diamondbacks emerged stronger than ever after a few troublesome innings. Dan Hudson was seen to be struggling when he
gave up six runs but after Juan Miranda got on the field, things started to look up for the Diamondbacks. He continued his excellence and it seems that when Miranda gets on the field, the better the Diamondbacks get.
The Diamondbacks had a good record coming into this match as they previously secured wins in 11 out of their 13 games and beat the Colorado Rockies to gain the second place in the National League West. They have been 10-1 since they suffered an 8-4 loss
against the San Diego Padres.
Kirk Gibson, the manager for Arizona commented on his team’s victory saying, "It's a good feeling, we could have laid down early in the game. There's no question we were tired today when we got in here. They picked it up and were fortunate to get the win."
It wasn’t just the game that the Astros lost. They lost their catcher Humberto Quintero due to a collision at the home plate in the last inning. He had to leave the game because continuing with a right ankle sprain was out of the question for the star. Quintero
is currently on the fifteen days Disabled List. The incident is similar to the Buster Posey event which has all of Major League Baseball in a frenzy regarding a change in rules to protect catchers from collision induced injuries.
Ryan Robert commented, "Obviously, you never want to see anyone get hurt in this game. That wasn't the intention. The first thing I thought of was the Buster Posey thing. That's what everyone is talking about right now.’’
The Astros dominance was visible in the first four innings as they unleashed run after run and did not let the Diamondbacks get any of their own till the fifth inning rolled around. Michael Bourn and Chris Johnson scored one each as Hunter Pence and Clint
Barmes scored twice contributing to the Astros six runs.
Juan Miranda kicked things off for Arizona as he belted out a home-run that flew 365 feet and Miguel Montero scored. The sixth inning saw another homer courtesy of Miranda, this time lasting for 364 feet as Stephen Drew scored. The seventh inning recorded
runs from Willie Bloomquist, Ryan Roberts and Kelly Johnson.
