Juan Monaco beats Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-1
16th seeded Argentine Juan Monaco prevailed over world number 70, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 in the first round at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell on Monday. The Argentinean needed just one
hour and 18 minutes to beat his opponent in a one sided contest.
Dimitrov had a good start to the match as the Bulgarian broke Monaco in the second game of the opening set, racing to a 3-0 lead. However, Monaco fought back and won six of the next seven games to claim the first set 6-4.
The Argentinean converted both break point opportunities he received in the opening set. The 27-year-old managed to save four of the five break points he faced in the first set.
Monaco thrashed his opponent in the second set, dropping just a single game to clinch the set 6-1.
The Argentinean hit a single ace and committed the same number of double fault in the second set. The right-handed delivered 70 percent of the first serves, winning 71 percent of the points on them in the second set. Dimitrov could
not save any of the three break points he faced in the second set. The Bulgarian lost all the three break points he received in the second set.
Monaco will meet world number 186 Simone Vagnozzi of Italy in the second round.
Pablo Andujar ousts Gerard Granollers-Pujol 6-0, 6-1
World number 51, Spaniard Pablo Andujar crushed his countryman, wild card entrant Gerard Granollers-Pujol in straight sets to advance to the second round. Andujar was merciless as he allowed his compatriot to win just a single
game in the entire match, winning the contest 6-0, 6-1 in just 57 minutes.
Andujar was flawless as he did not lose even a single game in the opening set, winning it 6-0. The Spaniard fired a couple of aces and did not commit any double fault in the first set. The 25-year-old delivered a whopping 86 percent
of the first serves and converted 83 percent of them into points in the opening set. Andujar won three of the four break points he received in the first set.
In the second set, the Spaniard started from where he left in the opening set and broke Granollers-Pujol twice, winning the set 6-1. Andujar hit 53 percent of the first serves in the second set, winning an incredible 94 percent
of the points on them. The Spaniard converted two of the four break points he received in the opening set.
Andujar is slated to play another compatriot Nicolas Almagro in the second round. Almagro, seeded eighth at the event, received a bye in the opening round.
