Juan Monaco destroys Andrey Golubev in first rubber – Davis Cup 2011: ARG vs KAZ
Wednesday, 7th July saw the start of the first tie between Argentina and Kazakhstan in the opening match of the quarter-final round of the Davis Cup 2011.
The quarter-final being played on home ground of the Argentine team, the support was as much as possible. Boosting up the already inform Argentine player, the crowd gave a standing applause to their players. Playing the first match
of the tie was the clay court specialist, Juan Monaco against the troubled Andrey Golubev. The 27-year-old Argentine had already made his mark winning 4 out of 5 previous matches in Davis Cup on clay courts.
Losing only one match on Davis Cup tour, the world No.43 had his shoes tightened up for the quarter-final as it was the opening match of the tie. Considering the fact that both players were proving themselves to be useful in a
team tournament, the Argentine gave the crowd an eye opening match as a start of the tie.
The former Russian player, Andrey had been making his way up the ranking as well. The World No.45 had already proved himself following his stats in the Davis Cup appearances. Losing only one match out of six on clay courts, the
right hander had his eyes on yet another win.
As the fans cheered for their home player, the argentine started the match with serving first to a flying start. As the first set went on, the world No.43 gave his opponent stunners as he won 86 percent of his points on first and
second serves. Winning a total of 34 points to 22, Juan took away the first set from the Kazakhstani 6-3.
Following with the second set, it seemed that the Argentine had super shots as Andrey did not stand a chance against the clay court specialist. Sliding on the backlines, Juan Monaco made it seem that he was playing an amateur.
 Speculating an 89 percent winning first serves and 100 percent on the second, the 27 year old snatched the second set with a severe thrashing to the Kazakhstani in a 6-0 win.
After the first two set, the ground was all for the Argentine to rule. Maintaining his concentration, Juan had already so far won the match. The ending set was no longer a hard shot now. Wining 92 percent points on the second serve
and 69 percent on the first, the Argentine won the set 6-4 and the match, concluding his victory to a 3 setter straight win shattering the hopes of the former Russian athlete 6-3, 6-0 and 6-4.
The next match will be played between Juan Martin Del Potro and Mikhail Kukushkin. The Argentineans have a 1-0 lead and are hoping to take up another point from the next fixture as well.
