Juan Monaco dismisses Jimmy Wang to reach quarters – Proton Malaysian Open 2012
Second seed, Juan Monaco, stomped over the Taiwanese wild card entrant, Jimmy Wang, in straight sets at the Proton Malaysian Open 2012 on Thursday. He nudged up a 6-4, 7-5 victory against the Saudi Arabian-born Wang to charge into the final eight at this
indoor hard court event taking place in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
The Argentinean number two unveiled his true form, ultimately taking down the world number 151 in one hour and 48 minutes. After earning the victory in their first battle against each other, Monaco edged in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
Head 2 Head Series by 1-0 against the Taiwanese.
“It’s my first match on indoor courts so overall it was an okay match for me. I am happy with the way I ended the match,” said the clay court specialist after conquering the Taiwanese.
Monaco stormed into the Putra Indoor Stadium. He drew the first blood in the opening game and took the initial lead. After capitalising on another break chance in the fifth game, the Argentinean leaped to a 4-1 lead. Despite squandering his serve in the
very next game, Monaco remained focused and carved out the opener with a 6-4 win.
Ranked 11th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Monaco kept momentum sailing in the following set. He got the critical break in the opening game and jumped to a 2-0 lead. He exchanged two serve breaks after that and eventually
sealed the set by winning seven games to five.
The 28-year-old stayed on track for his fourth year-to-date title. He recorded impressive stats and ruled throughout the battle against the Taiwanese. Monaco brilliantly clicked 29 out of 41 points on his higher first serve share of 67 per cent. He also
sought 11 break opportunities and availed five of them.
The ultra-fit Argentine will face off Canada’s Vasek Pospisil in the last eight.
“It will be a difficult match as he has nothing to lose. We played a tough match in Toronto last month as well.”
The Canadian starlet trashed the American qualifier, Michael Yani, in straight sets to set up this meeting.
