Juan Monaco disposes off Andrey Golubev in the round robin of the Power Horse World Team Cup
Team Argentina stood tall against the Kazakh squad, as Juan Monaco outclassed Andrey Golubev in the opening round of the Power Horse World Team Cup playoffs being played at the Rochusclub in Dusseldorf, Germany on Sunday. Monaco
took down his Kazakh opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, in just 66 minutes as Team Argentina white washed Kazakhstan in the Round Robin stage of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament.
The world number 38, Monaco, exhibited brilliant tennis skills on the clay court of Dusseldorf to assist his team a 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan. He faced some resistance from Golubev in the opener but manoeuvred his way to clinch
the set. Monaco proved absolutely devastating in the next set and reeled off six straight games to race away to victory to give his side 1-0 lead in the World Team Cup. The Argentine carried on his winning momentum from the Madrid Open two weeks ago, when
he defeated Golubev in a three-setter 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Although Monaco’s serve lacked something to be desired, he managed to clinch sufficient points to ease past his opponent in the contest. He delivered 65 per cent of his first serve on target and collected 22 of 31 points on it
to get the competitive advantage over Golubev. The Argentine cashed in most of the opportunities he received in the game, as he converted five of the eight break chances en route to victory.
The Kazakh competitor hung in the opener for a while but appeared in a dreadful form in the second set. He had six chances to break the opponent’s serve and he converted merely one opportunity in the first set before submitting
the game to Monaco.
The opening set took off with an exchange of a serve break from both competitors and the scores levelled at 4-4. The Argentine dominance started from there onwards, as he bagged the next eight games on the trot to stun Golubev.
Monaco cracked in his second serve break of the match to serve out of the first set at 6-4 and get one up in the contest.
The second set all belonged to the Argentine, as he broke Golubev in all of his serve games to dispense him out of the competition. Monaco stung three straight break points to rocket away to an assertive victory at 6-0 and give
his side initial lead over the Kazakh squad. Juan Ignacio Chela was the other Argentine who won his singles rubber against Mikhail Kukushkin to help his team win the first tie.
