Juan Monaco ousts Grigor Dimitrov to enter round three – BNP Paribas Masters 2012
Ninth seed, Juan Monaco, stomped over the Bulgarian star, Grigor Dimitrov, in straight sets at the BNP Paribas Masters 2012 on Wednesday. He juggled up a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory against the 21-year-old to secure a place in the pre-quarters at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event held in Paris, France.
The Argentinean number two, Monaco showed spectacular skills to outclass Dimitrov for the third straight time. After recording the victory in one hour and 37 minutes, Monaco not only extended lead in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head Series by 3-0 against the world
number 55 but also advanced into the round of 16 at this indoor hard court event.
Monaco assertively entered the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy. He failed to seek any break opportunity but brushed off the lone breakpoint he came across to drag the set to a tie-breaker. The Argentinean edged past Dimitrov in it before closing out the
opener with a 7-6(4) victory.
Ranked 10th in the world, Monaco lifted his game in the proceeding set. He drew the first blood in the second game and cruised to a 3-0 lead. The Argentinean kept his remaining serves with conviction and capitalised on another break chance in
the last game, eventually sealing the set by winning six games to two.
The 28-year-old will lock horns with eighth seeded Janko Tipsarevic in the third round.
Monaco’s top countryman, Juan Martin Del Potro also stole the show later that day. He dumped the Colombian qualifier, Alejandro Falla, in straight sets in one hour and 17 minutes.
“I feel tired, but this tournament is so good. It's a big tournament, and I'm ready to do my best like in Basel and Vienna,” said del Potro in a courtside interview after conquering his rival. “I played really well today. Tomorrow, I have a difficult match
against a French guy.”
The seventh seed dropped his serve twice but cashed half of the 12 break chances to formulate a 6-2, 6-2 success.
Next in line for Del Potro is the local wild card entrant, Michael Llodra, who stunned 10th seeded John Isner in straight sets to set up this clash.
