Juan Monaco ousts Tobias Kamke to reach semis – Power Horse Cup 2013
Argentinean star Juan Monaco breezed past the local challenger Tobias Kamke in straight sets at the Power Horse Cup 2013 on Thursday.
He recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory against the German to power into the final four at this ATP World Tour 250 series event taking place in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Seeded third in this event, Monaco showed brilliant tennis skills to cruise into the semis. After stealing the limelight, Monaco improved to a 4-0 record in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series against the local contender.
The Argentine was quoted in a courtside interview after bagging the match, “It wasn't easy to play, as it was very cold. I am happy to have reached the semi-finals and I will have a difficult match against a baseliner tomorrow.”
Monaco made a comfortable start at this match and held his opening serve at 1-1. He got the coveted break in the fifth game and jumped to a 4-2 lead. He then held his remaining serves with poise and cashed another break chance in the last game to clinch
the set with a 6-3 score line.
Currently ranked 19th in the Emirates Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Monaco lost his track towards the following set and eventually fell at 0-2. However, he went berserk after that and leaped to a 5-2 lead with two breaks of serve. Despite squandering
his edge in the ninth game, the higher ranked Argentinean capitalised on another break chance, subsequently bagging the set with a 6-4 win.
Next in queue for Monaco is his qualifying compatriot, Guido Pella, in the last four. Pella reflected about his next match-up, “It feels really good. I came here to play the qualifying and tomorrow I will compete in the semi-finals against an incredible
opponent. I hope to reach the final, but I know that it will be a tough match.”
The world number 101, Pella recorded a 7-6(5), 7-5 score line to stun the seventh seed, Viktor Troicki.
On another court, Netherlands’ Igor Sijsling crippled the Czech contender, Jan Hajek, with a breadstick to progress. He recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory against the Czech to prevail. He got the much awaiting break in the fourth game and pulled out the opener
with a 6-3 score line.
In the proceeding round, Sijsling went berserk. He reeled off opening four games before the Czech could come on the score sheet. The Dutch maintained his intensity and sealed the deal with a breadstick.
