Juan Monaco sends Fabio Fognini packing; bags round two fixture– Valencia Open 2011
Juan Monaco, Argentine world No.41, hampered his second round challenger of the Valencia Open 2011, Fabio Fognini, ranked world No.44, ending his tour 6-3, 6-1, in an hour and 6 minutes hard indoor circuit match. The match was
scheduled at Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, Valencia, Spain on Thursday, 4th of November.
With the two walking down the blue circuit, Fognini, world No.44, opened up the match serving out the first game, 1-0. Following the Italian 24-year-old, Monaco blazed away a winner to even up the scores at 1-1. Continuing with
the set, Fognini served out his second win 1-2, however, the scores were again levelled up by the Argentine world No.41.
Monaco, 27-year-old, flared up the set as he broke the lower ranked Italian and led the set, 3-2. Extending his lead further, world No.41 then pull off a service winner and led the scoreboard, 4-2. Breaking the Italian for the
second time in three consecutive games, Monaco held the lead; however, Fognini broke back right away in game eight, 5-3.
With just one more win required to finish off the set, Monaco chipped off game nine, breaking the Italian, third breakpoint win, to captivate the set with a 6-3, first set win.
Leading the match with a set win, Monaco continued with the second set and served out game one rolling down the score card, 1-0. Fognini levelled up instantly, 1-1, switching the serve back to his rival. Serving out game three,
2-1, Monaco went marvellous as he broke the lower ranked Italian in game four, 3-1, and served out game five to lead the set, 4-1.
Left with just two more win to finish off the set, Monaco held his offence high and overpowered the Italian once again breaking game six and led closer to winning the fixture. Crumbling the Italians hopes, Monaco bagged game seven,
finishing off the set, 6-1, and the match in straight sets.
Making it through the second round, Argentine now moves on to the quarter-final stage of the ATP World Tour 500 event as he rivals the former world No.1, Spaniard, Juan Carlos Ferrero, to battle out the semis spot.  Ferrero has
been in astounding form lately and has been picking up on higher ranked players as well.
For Monaco to beat the fabulous Spaniard, he surely needs to put up his best form and come over the pressure games. With the Spaniard leading the head-to-head with two games to one, Monaco will also be looking to even up the scores
as the two fire up at Valencia on Friday, 5th of November.
