Juan Monaco trounces Tobias Kamke to cruise into quarters – Mercedes Cup 2012
Second seed, Juan Monaco, breezed past the local star, Tobias Kamke, in straight sets at the Mercedes Cup 2012 on Thursday. He nudged up a 6-2, 6-3 victory against the world number 98 to advance into the quarter-finals at this outdoor clay court tournament
taking place in Germany.
The Argentinean star tumbled Kamke through brilliant forehands and backhands from his arsenal of skills. After earning the spotlight in one hour and 23 minutes, Monaco not only improved to a 2-0 lifetime in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
Head 2 Head series against the German but also secured a place in the final eight at the Tennis Club Weissenhof.
"Today I thought I played very well from the beginning," said the jubilant Argentinean. "I was able to take all the opportunities I made so I’m happy. I’m trying to go day-by-day. I’m playing very well and in perfect shape. But every match is different and
complicated, so we’ll see how far I go."
Monaco assertively entered this ATP World Tour 250 series event and held his serve in the opening game with conviction. He continued hitting powerful groundstrokes and swiped his entire serves without facing any hindrance. The Argentinean cashed in half
of the four break opportunities and pulled out the opener by winning six games to two.
The 14th Ranked Argentinean displayed brilliant defensive skills in the follow-up set. He dusted away seven out of eight breakpoints he faced to keep his entire serves. Monaco was broke in the third game but quickly counterattacked in the very
next game. He then held his remaining serves with poise and got the breakthrough in the eighth game, eventually sealing the set with a 6-3 win.
Next in line for Monaco is the Slovakian qualifier, Pavol Cervenak, who stunned the former world number two, Tommy Haas, in straight sets to set up this encounter.
The third seed, Bernard Tomic, became casualty of the day. He was crashed out by the Brazilian challenger, Thomaz Bellucci, in gruelling straight sets in his opening match. The Aussie teenager cashed in two out of 10 break chances but was broken three times,
eventually suffering a 6-7(6), 3-6 loss.
