Juan Monaco tumbles over Lukas Rosol in the second round – French Open 2012
Seeded 13th in the tournament, Juan Monaco, powered down the Czech rising star, Lukas Rosol, with a bagel at the Roland Garros 2012 on Thursday. He formulated a 7-6(4), 6-0, 7-6(5) victory against the world number 79
to cruise into the third round at this prestigious red clay court tournament taking place in Paris, France.
The Argentinean number two displayed tremendous skills and abilities to outclass Rosol in their first encounter. After earning this success, Monaco assertively booked a spot in the round of 32 at this second of the four Grand Slam
event.
Both contestants played their best tennis in the opening set. Despite committing fewer winners as compared to Rosol, the Argentinean jolted down a better first serve share and held his entire serves with conviction. The set went
to the tie-breaker where Monaco edged past his rival and clicked the opener with a 7-6(4) success.
The 28-year-old sought his rhythm in the second set and reeled off all six games in a row. He swiped in his entire serves without facing any barrier and cashed in three out of four break chances to bake a bagel.
Ranked 15th in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Monaco maintained consistency in his game in the third set and quickly plucked his entire serves. However, he failed
to get the breakthrough and enforced a tie-breaker. The Argentine prevailed in it and eventually clinched the set with a 7-6(5) score line.
Summing up the seed’s performance in this battle, Monaco clobbered a much higher first serve share of 82 per cent as compared to his rival’s 55 per cent and brilliantly availed 59 out of 71 points on it. He also hammered 22 winners
and sealed the deal with 115 points.
Up next for the Argentine is the 19th seed Milos Raonic who trashed the American qualifier, Jesse Levine, in straight sets to set up this battle.
