Juan-Pablo Brzezicki butchers Diego Junqueira in the first round – BVA Open 2011 CH
In all-Argentine clash between Juan-Pablo Brzezicki and third seed Diego Junqueira, it was the seeded player that faced a disappointing first round exit from the BVA Open Challenger tournament, contested in Brazil, on Tuesday October
25th. It was the eleventh encounter between the two players and undoubtedly Junqueira was leading the head-to-head tally with 6-4 but this time it was World No.256 defeating World No.91 in straight sets score of 6-2, 6-1. The 29-year-old flabbergasted
the crowd with an incredible victory against his opponent in just over an hour and six minutes.
The poor run of form in all forms of game was the main reason for the third seed’s defeat in this match. He had just won three of his last nine matches and was finding it very difficult at the court. He was totally out of touch
and required this win to boost his morale but his opponent didn’t allow him to do so.
29-year-old, Brzezicki, had also the same success rate as his opponent in his last nine games but fortunately for him the two of those three wins came in recent matches and he looked to have revived his form to some extent. He
bamboozled the 30-year-old third seed and totally outclassed him in every aspect of the game.
There was no competition whatsoever from the third seed who had surrendered in the very early stages of the match and never looked to make any impact. Apparently he didn’t looked to be 100% match fit and wasn’t even able to maintain
a respectable success rate on his serves.
The corner to corner shot making ability of the younger competitor made it even more difficult for the third seed to extract anything positive. A half-hearted effort won him two games whilst his opponent clinched six games on the
other hand.
Brzezicki struck an ace and registered a scintillating first and second serve success rate of 75% and 63% respectively. It was just a matter of time for the younger Brazilian and he won the set with a difference of nine points.
Trailing one set down and looking extremely out of touch, it was getting absolutely difficult for the third seed to have any sort of impact and he was hammered from his opponent on his own serves. The onslaught continued in the
second set as well and Brzezicki struck a couple of aces and rounded them off with an impressive first and second serve success rate of 73% and 50% respectively.
The total points played in the match were ninety-four and 60% of these went to the winner which clearly shows his total domination throughout the match.
Juan-Pablo Brzezicki plays off against the winner of the match between Julio Silva and Thiago Alves in the second round.
