Juan-Pablo Brzezicki slams Pablo Galdon in the second round - Sao Leopoldo Challenger 2011
In an all-round Argentine contest, Juan-Pablo Brzezicki slammed Pablo Galdon, in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 in the second round of Sao Leopoldo Challenger tournament. The match was played at outdoor clay-courts in Sao Leopoldo, Brazil
and lasted for an hour and twenty-four minutes.
Brzezicki led the head-to-head tally 2-1 and but his dismal forms raised some questions about his chances to move into the quarter-finals. Galdon had a perfect opportunity to equalize the head-to-head score but he failed to make
any sort of impact and was completely overpowered in all departments.
25-year-old, Galdon, started the proceedings in traditional manner and held his serve to push scoreboard to 1-0; his opponent did the same and score was levelled at 1-1. In the next two games both players traded breaks and pushed
the score to 2-2.
Galdon broke again to take two game lead and pushed the score to 4-2. Finally his opponent held on to his serve before breaking in the fifth game to level the score at 4-4. Fifth and sixth game was special because they proved to
be the turning point of the match; Brzezicki struck and ace whilst his opponent committed a double-fault.
A slight lapse of concentration in the second last game of the set resulted in another double-fault by World No.274, Galdon, who couldn’t break for the third time to enforce a tie-breaker. Trailing one set down and struggling hard
to keep up the pace with his opponent, it was becoming increasingly difficult for the youngster to cope with the pressure and come on top in the second set.
All factors were running against the youngster who couldn’t handle the pressure and lost the second set in most embarrassing manner. He started off the proceedings but couldn’t hang on to his serve and lost the first game. This
initial setback was long lasting as Galdon only win a single game while his opponent cruised past him winning six games, on the other hand.
Three consecutive breaks up front and then one at the end sealed the second set win for Brzezicki. He bagged 31 points while his competitor could just win 16. It was one of the most disappointing defeats for the 25-year-old.
With an enthralling 60% total points win percentage, Buenos Aires born, Brzezicki, cruised past his rival into the quarter-finals where he is drawn against the wildcard entrant Andre Ghem of Brazil.
