Juan Pablo Montoya happier in NASCAR
Former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has definitely been one of the spotlight drivers in Formula 1 history because of his aggression and a unique attitude about racing. He left the sport after departing from McLaren where he used to drive alongside
Kimi Raikkonen during the 2005-2006 season.
However, after leaving Formula 1, Juan Pablo decided to become a part of NASCAR which is quite different from Formula 1 and less technical in many ways. One would think that most of the tracks in NASCAR are just a tilted circular road and the sport has less
skill involved than the Formula 1.
Recently, Montoya stated that he does not want to return to the Formula 1 grid in the future. He races for Target sponsored Chip Ganassi entry in NASCAR and stated that NASCAR is more “fun”. Yes it is, if you just want to drive around in circles.
“I saw the (Abu Dhabi) finale this year and it's like it has been all the time -- one car is a second faster than another but he cannot pass. “NASCAR is "more fun" than F1. They say the problem is the tracks but honestly F1 has always been the same,” he
insisted.
He believes that NASCAR is more versatile and offers a much better experience. However, one has to think that after driving in such a technical and well known global sport as Formula 1, how does Juan Pablo Montoya even have fun in a sport like NASCAR?
“Some people tell me I should go back to F1, but I'm happy. I think it is clear that there is no chance of going the other way at the moment. At this moment I am happy, my sponsor is happy and Chip Ganassi is happy and that's all I care about.” the 35-year-old,
who made his F1 debut for Williams in 2001, told media.
Montoya failed to make it to the top 12 Spring Cup contenders which is basically a system for deciding the series champion known as “The Chase”.
Nevertheless, Juan Pablo believes that Sebastian Vettel deserves the 2010 title as he is one of the most talented new drivers on the grid.
“He's got talent even though he did everything possible not to win it. He and his team made many mistakes that made it very complicated for them, but I think the fastest driver and car won,” he said.
Obviously no one can force Juan Pablo on making his decisions but it is quite disappointing to see such a talented driver downgrading from Formula 1 to NASCAR. However, we'll give him the benefit of the doubt as long as he's happy and on the race track.
