Juan Pereyra pockets Men’s 400m freestyle gold medal: Day three – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Juan Pereyra of FIAT/MINAS pocketed the gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on the third day of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on September 1, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Pereyra presented a phenomenal swim in the eight-lap freestyle event and occupied the top spot of the race with a timing of 3 minutes and 56.79 seconds. His effort was 16.72 seconds slower than the world mark of Paul Biedermann, who clocked a superb 3 minutes
and 40.07 seconds for gold medal of the same event at the 2009 Rome World Championships. Furthermore, Pereyra missed the championship mark of Rodrigo Rocha Castro, with a difference of 4.11 seconds as Castro posted a time of 3 minutes and 48.92 seconds in
2009.
In the meantime, Pereyra’s team-member, Lucas Cruz Kanieski joined him on the podium for the silver medal. Kanieski remained nearly two seconds slower than the gold medallist and completed his swim in a time of 3 minutes and 58.60 seconds. The third spot
was obtained by Daniele Domenico Tirabassi of CORINTHIANS/SB/SP, who stayed only 1.04 seconds behind the silver medallist and earned bronze medal by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 59.64 seconds.
The arena enjoyed the stupendous efforts the top-three swimmers of the event, whereas, Pereyra displayed an astonishing swim in the distant freestyle swim. He remained the top contender for the gold medal of the event by keeping his fellow competitors at
a significant distance and was the first swimmer to touch the finishing wall.
Nevertheless, the fourth position of the event was claimed by Kanieski’s team-member, Marcus Pinto Botega, who remained just 0.05 seconds behind him and ended his race in a time of 3 minutes and 59.69 seconds. Botega was followed by his team-mate, Giuliano
Carer Rocco, who was 0.90 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and earned fifth fastest spot of the swim by posting a time of 4 minutes and 00.59 seconds.
Meanwhile, Andre Schultz of CRF/RJ completed his swim in a time of 4 minutes and 01.02 seconds for sixth position. Schultz was chased by his team-mate, Armando S Negreiros, who touched the wall in a time of 4 minutes and 03.61 seconds. The final spot of
the race was secured by Phillip Cameron Morrison of ECP/SABESP, who remained 0.32 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 4 minutes and 03.93 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all scheduled events, whereas, the winning squads were called upon the victory stand for their flawless efforts after the completion of the championship.
