Juan Rivera sparks as Los Angeles Dodgers rout Pittsburgh Pirates 15-1 - MLB Update
Los Angeles Dodgers’ left-fielder, Juan Rivera had an outstanding day with the bat as he went 3-for-4 with an average of .293 and hit four RBIs including three runs in the Dodgers’ 15-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
on September 18.
Dodgers started extremely well as they smashed three runs during the first inning to get a 3-0 lead. Jamey Carroll ground out to the pitcher but Dee Gordon scored the first run for Dodgers. Matt Kemp hit a solo homer (411 feet) towards centre-field to lift
the potential of his team. The third run for Dodgers was taken by James Loney when Jerry Sands singled off centre-field and Aaron Miles advanced to second base.
In the second inning, Dodgers’ batters blasted six quick runs to raise their lead 9-0. Chad Billingsley posted one run when Kemp drove a single-run shot towards centre-field. Loney hit a double-run drive to deep centre while Kemp and Rivera added the second
and third run respectively. Sands struck a grand slam (401 feet) to left-field while Loney and Miles contributed the last two runs to end the six-run campaign for the Dodgers.
Dodgers led off 11-0 at the bottom of the third inning when Gordon and Kemp both added two collective runs on the drive of Rivera towards centre-field. Both teams were able to score one run during the fifth inning and advanced the score-board 12-1. Xavier
Paul doubled to deep left-centre and Chase D’Arnaud added the first run for Pirates to reduce their lead.
On the other hand, Rivera scored one run when A.J. Ellis walked, Loney moved to third base and Miles occupied second base to end the fifth inning. Dodgers’ batters continued to raise the momentum of their team as they smashed three runs at the bottom of
sixth inning to get a 15-1 lead. Gordon and Carroll both scored two runs jointly when Rivera doubled to right-centre.
The final run for the Dodgers was taken by Rivera when Loney bunted a sloppy drive towards right-field. Billingsley pitched five innings for Dodgers and struck-out five batters with an ERA of 4.23. He surrendered one run, two walks, four hits and one earned
run on his 98 pitches.
As a result, Dodgers sealed the four-game series 3-1 after defeating the Pirates with a huge margin.
