Juan Sebastian Cabal/Robert Farah routed Andrea Collarini/Denis Kudla in the quarter-final of the Seguros Bolivar Open
Top seed Columbian pair of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah wiped out the duo of Andrea Collarini and Denis Kudla of the United States in the quarter-final of the Seguros Bolivar Open at San Jose, Costa Rica
on Thursday night. The Columbians ejected their opponents from the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Challenger Tour event in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 taking merely forty six minutes of play.
Cabal and Farah simply outclassed their opponents to qualify for the semi-final of the tournament. Unlike the American pair, the Columbians stringed their efforts together to develop expert co-ordination. They served out with 67
per cent accuracy and collected 26 out of 32 first serve points in the game, without committing only one double fault.
The contest proved to be error-ridden for Collarini and Kudla, whose plenty of strokes ended long and wide of the court. The American made their positions even worse in the match by spilling out five costly double faults and letting
their opponents take advantage over them. A total of 90 points were played in the match out of which the American pair won 34 and the top seeded Columbian duo bagged 56 to seal the game.
The top seeded pair had an explosive start to the opening set, breaking early to lead 3-1. Cabal and Farah were brilliant on winning points and collected 17 out of 18 first serve points and 10 of 22 return points in the first set.
The two Columbians kept on pressurizing their opponents from the both ends to lose their focus and commit mistakes.
Cabal and Farah didn’t drop their serve in any game and successfully defended three break points. Collarini and Kudla had poor return game, as they clinched just one out of 18 first return points. The Americans had to surrender
the opening set to their strong opponents at 3-6 to lag behind 0-1 in the match.
The following set brought no luck for Collarini and Kudla as faults kept flowing from their rackets on regularity. Their double fault count was three in the second set and they merely nabbed eight out of 20 total serve points.
The Americans were broken in the very first game of the second set but they replied with the same in the next game to level the scores at 1-1.
Cabal and Farah kept their momentum going in the second set and two consecutive serve breaks put them to an impassable lead of 5-2. The top seeded pair had no difficulty in serving out of the contest at 6-2, marking an assertive
victory and a berth in the semi-final round.
The Columbian duo will be facing the team of Giovanni Lapentti of Ecuador and Nicolas Massu of Chile in the semi-final matchup.
