Jud Ignacio Sorribes secures Girls 200m butterfly title – 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
Jud Ignacio Sorribes of Spain won the gold medal of Girls 200m butterfly final on the second day of the 2011 Federation Internationale 3rd World Junior Championships on Wednesday, August 17, in Lima, Peru.
The 17-year-old Ignacio Sorribes presented a nice swim in front of the arena to win the title of 200m event, by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 08.25 seconds. She was just 0.15 seconds away from improving the championship mark of 2 minutes and 08.10
seconds, set by Natsuki Akiyama of Japan in 2008. She was also 6.44 seconds slower than the world record of 2 minutes and 01.81 seconds, made by Liu Zige of China in 2009.
The gold medallist was trailed by Alessia Polieri of Italy, who remained just 1.40 seconds slower than her and occupied the podium for silver medal, by submitting a time of 2 minute and 09.65 seconds. Miyu Otsuka of Japan was the third fastest swimmer of
the swim and reached the podium for bronze medal, by posting a time of 2 minutes and 11.35 seconds.
In the meantime, Rachel Elizabeth Kelly of Great Britain transpired as the fourth best finisher of the four-lap butterfly swim, by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 12.23 seconds. She was chased by Olivia Barker of United States, who stayed only 0.27 seconds
behind Kelly and earned fifth position of the event, with a timing of 2 minutes and 12.50 seconds.
Moments later, the arena viewed sixth fastest finish of Haley Lips of United States, as she was 1.52 seconds slower than her former finisher and touched the finishing wall to post a time of 2 minutes and 14.02 seconds. Canada’s Devon Bibault and Noemie Thomas
reported as the seventh and eighth fastest finishers of the event, as they ended their swims to produce timings of 2:14.12 and 2:15.89 minutes, respectively.
Ignacio Sorribes expressed contentment over her title winning effort, while the arena is excited to see who wins in the remaining events of the championships.
