Judd Trump and Mark Williams ready as Ronnie O’Sullivan withdraws: 2011 Australian Goldfields Open
Big guns of snooker, including Judd Trump and Mark Williams, are excited to travel to Australia to take part in the first ever major ranking event since the 1970s.
A big shock came, however, as a result of Ronnie O’Sullivan pulling out of the event. The Rocket won’t feature at the Bendigo Stadium arena, as he pulled out of the event due to an injury.
However, one player aiming for glory at the event is World Snooker Championship 2011 runner-up, Judd Trump, and the player hopes to do well in the competition. The Bristolian will be a player to watch out for, along with John Higgins, Mark Selby, Mark Williams
and former world champion Neil Robertson.
Trump seemed really excited on the prospect of snooker returning to Australia and believed Robertson was the reason for this shift.
Speaking to the local news reporters, Trump said, “It's the first event we've had in Australia so it will be new to everyone. No one will know what to expect but it's great for snooker to become more of a global game.”
The 21-year-old added, “If Neil Robertson hadn't won the world title last year we'd never have been going there.”
Another strong contender for the Australian title is world number one, Mark Williams of Wales. He performed brilliantly in the 2011 World Snooker Championship, Players Tour Championships (PTC) and 2011 World Cup Snooker. The Welshman will be looking forward
to make his mark in the first major ranking title competition in Australia.
Williams said in an interview, “It's nice to travel around the world. We used to do it a lot a few years ago and it's happening again now. It's not just a UK sport, it's a worldwide one. The standard of snooker has improved over the last year and the number
of tournaments has gone up.”
The tournament will commence from Monday, July 18 at the Bendigo Stadium in Victoria and cuemen from around the world are delighted for the game of snooker to come back to Australia after almost four decades.
