Judd Trump annihilates Fergal O’Brien in Round 1: 2012 Welsh Open at Newport Centre, Wales
Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien failed to score even a single frame win against the 2011 UK Championship winner Judd Trump in their first round clash of 2012 Welsh Open at the Newport Centre arena in Newport, Wales. The Irishman slipped down by a whitewash defeat
with the score line of 4-0 at the hands of the Bristolian thunder.
The young spark did not give O’Brien any chance to triumph over him during the match and successfully ousted him to book a second round spot. The World Number four was extraordinary at the baize and took not more than 68 minutes to finish the match as he
cleared the table tremendously in all four frames. O’Brien could do nothing but watch Trump play and pocket on the table.
The Bristolian potter showed no signs of nervousness or pressure and played with an easy striking cue stick all over the table. With this victory in hand, Trump will have a strong grip on his strengths. Besides, Trump believes his steadiness in the Welsh
event will play an important role to continue his superb run.
After winning over O’Brien, Trump spoke to the media and said, “It was nothing brilliant, but you just want to win your first round match. I was steady, it's good to get through. Luckily for me Fergal made a few mistakes and I capitalised. It was a tough
match for me, but I came through pretty easily.”
“It's always nice to finish the match strongly,” added Trump. “You feel like the crowd are waiting for things to happen. They want you to go for shots, which are sometimes daft, but you've just got to be patient and make sure you don't get carried away.
You take on those difficult shots when you're feeling confident and hopefully they go in.”
The 22-year-old Trump will next meet the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open champion, compatriot Stuart Bingham in the second round of 2012 Welsh Open. Victory over O’Brien has definitely given the Ace a lot of confidence and he will be looking forward to make
his presence felt in the next encounter.
