Judd Trump beats Neil Robertson at 2011 UK Championship - Snooker news
England’s Judd Trump has surged into his first final clash of 2011 UK Championship at the York Barbican Centre after ousting his opponent from Australia, former world snooker champion,
Neil Robertson, in a stunning semi-final encounter by the score line of 9-7. The Englishman displayed a great deal of determination to achieve his goal.
The 22-year-old Trump was quite excited after beating one of the top players in the game. The semi-final clash was a topsy turvy affair, as both cueists went neck and neck until the end
of the match. Trump will now meet Ricky Walden or Mark Allen in the final battle. Both Walden and Allen will go head-to-head in the second semi-final on December 10, at the same arena.
The Englishman started the match in superb fashion, clinching the first two scrappy frames to grab a 2-0 lead. In the first frame, both Trump and Robertson had a tough fight. Robertson
had a strong run of 60 points and was in a strong position but Trump’s cracking half-century knock of 51 points, nudged him 71-60 down in the end.
The Bristolian was leading 1-0 and had already put Robertson under pressure. He continued his dominance in the second scrappy frame too and won the rack after he fired a superb clearance
of 84 to claim the frame victory and extend his lead to 2-0.
The Aussie was under a lot of pressure but he held his nerves and played tremendously in the third frame to win it easily 45-73. The fourth frame proved to be a piece of cake for the Victorian
potter, as he took control of the game with his fine knock of 67 and won the frame by the score line of 16-116 to pull level at 2-2.
The best-of-17 frames semi-final entered an interesting phase then as both Trump and Robertson were equally dominant. The fifth frame finished by the score line of 70-12 in favour of Trump,
while Robertson claimed the sixth frame 12-114, pocketing an excellent knock of 105 to equalise at 3-3.
A spectacular knock of 69 points in the seventh frame brought Mr. Haircut 100 on top of the Australian again, as he won the rack by 70-23 to move one frame up at 4-3 followed by the Aussie’s
one-visit frame triumph by 0-77. In reply to the 56-point knock of Robertson, the 2011 China Open champion potted some small breaks and hit the lead once again by 5-4.
The Thunder from Down Under, Robertson, and the English potter contested in a close battle during the 10th frame but eventually the former world champion won by 54-59 to pull
level again. The Ace had had enough of these ups and downs, so he leapt forward and added two more frames in his total score. The Melbourne Machine also lifted his game and levelled at 7-7 after securing back-to-back wins.
Danny the Boy, Trump, was under immense pressure as Robertson kept pace with him throughout the match. However, the World Number Seven stopped the Australian’s run once and for all after
he triumphed over him in the next two frames by 67-15 and 64-36 respectively, to win by 9-7. With this success, Judd Triumph has ensured his entry in his first ever UK Championship final.
