Judd Trump defeats Shaun Murphy in semi-final of China Open 2011
Judd Trump beat Shaun Murphy by a frame score of 6-1 in a best-of-eleven semi-final of the Bank of Beijing China Open Tournament 2011, held at the Beijing Students’ University Gymnasium on Saturday.
Shaun Murphy, who cruised into the semi-final after stunning world number one John Higgins by a frame score of 5-2, failed to get past trump in the semi-final. However, the 21-year-old Trump has had a brilliant tournament, shrugging off the likes of Marco
Fu, Mark Davis, Peter Ebdon and Shaun Murphy.
The frames played between the players were old fashioned, as there were no reasonable breaks made. However the overall score-line between them was 54-58, 51-69, 89-37, 23-69, 0-76, 44-67 and 34-74.
In the opening frame Murphy had a number of good chances but he couldn’t capitalise on them. He broke down on 13 and 36 and was punished by Trump, who responded with a couple of quick fire breaks of 30 and 27, to take a 1-0 lead. He also took the second
frame with a dominant break of 64 to extend his lead to 2-0.
Trump was again the first one to be among the balls in the third frame, but this time he lost his concentration, breaking down on 23 to give his opponent a great chance to get back into the game. Murphy compiled a decisive break of 53 to get to within one
frame at 2-1.
At this stage it seemed like Murphy had regained his momentum and there would be a close match ahead, but then Trump completely turned the tables on his opponent to pull off a shocking result.
Trump took the next four frames straight to register a 6-1 win over Murphy. He enjoyed dominant breaks of 28, 43, 41 and 53 in the last four frames respectively. Murphy, who recently won his first Players Tour Championship (PTC)  title, was one of the pre-tournament
favourites alongside John Higgins.
Judd Trump has now gone through to the finals of the China Open tournament 2011 for the first time and will face the winner of the match between Mark Selby and Ding Junhui.
