Judd Trump excited after grabbing top 16 spot: World Snooker News
Bristol’s wonder boy, Judd Trump is feeling excited as he joined the elite club of World’s Top 16 snooker players after a splendid performance at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield in May. The youngster
played brilliantly in the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship 2011, reaching the final match where he eventually lost to world number two, John Higgins.
The 21-year-old Bristolian potter was nowhere near the Crucible baize since he turned pro in 2005. The Ace, Trump, managed to make his way to the first round of the World Snooker Championship 2007
but unfortunately, he could not move further. The young Englishman crashed out of the mega event at the hands of Shaun Murphy and finished the season’s rankings at world number 74.
Mr. Haircut 100, Trump could not make an impressive impact on World Snooker Professional Tour for the next three years. He reached to the semi-final of 2008 World Open but lost to the Scotsman, John
Higgins, by 6-4.
He finished the season’s rankings as world number 41 as he made to the first rounds of several ranking and non-ranking tournaments. He won the 2009 Championship League Snooker after he took care of
Mark Selby by 3-2 in the final of winners group.
No major breakthroughs in the 2009-10 season but Danny the Boy, Trump, performed consistently during the season reaching to the first rounds of UK Championship, Welsh Open and China Open. The young
cueman made to the Semi-final of the 2009 Premier League Snooker where he lost to Ronnie O’Sullivan 1-5 and finished 30th at the end of the season.
While talking to the local media about his promotion in the top 16, Trump said, "I won't feel any more pressure because I'm excited about being in the top 16 and being able to go and play at all the
big venues. There was more pressure in the qualifiers because everyone was trying so hard to get through them."
He added talking about his hopes in the upcoming season, "There will be a lot more expectation on me this season. Even after I'd won in China, I was still considered an under-dog at Sheffield. But
now everyone has seen how I can play, and it's up to me to go out and keep playing like that in the new season."
Trump performed brilliantly in the 2010-11 season and moved to the top 16. He grabbed his first ever ranking event in the previous season after winning the 2011 China Open. He made a tremendous run
in the World Snooker Championship and finished runner-up against John Higgins.
