Judd Trump leads Marin Gould, 5-3 – 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship
Judd Trump has ended his opening session with a 5-3 lead over Martin Gould in a best-of-twenty-five frames match of the second round of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, which is being held
at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England.
It was yet another impressive performance form the Bristolian Ace potter, Judd Trump, who previously shocked the defending champion, Neil Robertson, in the first round. Trump, who recently won his first
ever ranking event’s title back in China, produced high quality game to put him in the driving seat.
It was a quick session, as both players like to play an attacking game. They presented a spectacular game by showcasing classy breaks of 54, 92, 75 and 80. The overall score-line however between both players
was 81-11 (54), 73-33, 92-1 (92), 26-66, 4-75 (75), 44-64, 93-0 (93) and 71-43.
Trump dominated the opening frame with a decisive break of 54 to draw the first blood 1-0. Second frame was a cagey affair. A bout of safety play seen among the players, but in the end it was again the
twenty-one-year-old, Trump, who came on the top to extend his lead by 2-0. Third frame was over within a blink of an eye, as Trump fired a magnificent break of 92 in it to go even ahead by 3-0.
The Pinner Potter, Gould, managed in winning the fourth frame without doing anything outstanding to reduce the deficit by 3-1 before the mid-session interval break.
On resuming the game it was again Gould who dominated the first two frames in a row to level the things by 3-3. The twenty-nine-year-old Gould, who previously outplayed Marco Fu in the first round, also
produced a dashing break of 75. Trump, however, showed no reeling effect and responded with a mind-boggling match-highest break of 93 in the next to lead once again at 4-3.
Eighth frame was a bit dramatic. Gould could have levelled the score in it, but he missed a tough final yellow at 43-57 and was punished from his opponent, who demonstrated his cue power to establish a
two-frame lead overnight.
Trump and Gould will start off with the second session today which consists of eight frames.
