Judd Trump looks strong after beating Jimmy White in first round of 2012 China Open
Former World Snooker Championship runner up, England’s Judd Trump has impressively made his way into the second round of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament after ousting the People’s Champion, compatriot Jimmy White by the score line of 5-3 in the first
round of the event. The 2011 UK Championship winner had the Chinese crown behind him during the game at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium.
Trump clinched the 2011 China Open tournament at the same arena to give his career a great boost. The defending champion has a lot of memories attached to the event and he really wants to defend the title to relive those memories. Beating a veteran potter
like White has strengthened his position in the competition which will give him a lot of confidence in the upcoming matches.
In his match against the former six-time World Snooker Championship runner up, he cruised into three frame lead quickly at 3-0 after he took three straight sets. Before he could add two more racks to win the match, White sprang back terrifically and breezed
into three frame wins to reach 4-3. The final frame was a bit tussling but Trump hit the final pot and claimed the victory,
He hailed the veteran potter after the match saying, “It was great playing Jimmy – he's always been one of my favourite players. I was really looking forward to the match because I knew it would be a great atmosphere. Jimmy's got lots of fans. But I just
wanted to get the job done and to start the tournament well. I really want to defend my title.”
The 22-year-old added, “Winning the China Open last season kick-started everything for me. The confidence winning the title gave me really spurred me on to play well at the World Championship. I started off pretty well. I felt all right out there, but then
I kept giving him easy chances. I just about got over the line in the end.”
Mr. Haircut 100 has now set up second round clash against the winner of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open, compatriot Stuart Bingham. The Trump-Bingham clash will be a close encounter because both potters have played at the same table before.
